Austin Interfaces: Reading & Open Mic

fields magazine and BookWoman are partnering on a new reading series/open mic called Austin Interfaces! Expect an intimate night of poetry, fiction, music, essays, and an open mic featuring up-and-coming artists in the Austin area every third Thursday from 7-9pm at BookWoman, hosted and curated by Nia KB.

This month will feature the work of local writers Leticia Urieta, Claudia Delfina Cardona, Melanie Robinson, and Liz Clausen, with music by Animal Abstrakt.

Leticia Urieta is a proud Tejana writer from Austin, TX. She works as a teaching artist in the Austin community. She is a graduate of Agnes Scott College and holds an MFA in fiction writing from Texas State University. Her work appears or is forthcoming in Cleaver, Chicon Street Poets Anthology, BorderSenses, Lumina, The Offing and others. She has recently completed her first mixed genre collection of poetry and prose and is currently at work completing her novel, which tells the story of a Mexican soldadera caught up in the march to Texas during Texas’ war with Mexico.

Claudia Delfina Cardona is a poet from San Antonio, Texas. She is an MFA poetry candidate at Texas State University, where she is also the Editorial Fellow of the Center for the Study of the Southwest. She is founder of Plancha Press and the Co-Founder of Chifladazine, a publication for creative Latinas and Latinxs. Her work can be found in Cosmonauts Avenue, Apogee Journal, and Tinderbox Poetry Journal.

Melanie Robinson is filled with generalized anxiety. She tentatively thinks of herself as a radical feminist, poet and educator who hails from San Antonio, Texas. She is currently an MFA candidate at Texas State University and is the recipient of a Damsite residency in New Mexico as well as Osage Arts Community in Missouri. She has been published both online and in print by University of Hell Press and Voices de la Luna and was a commissioned, featured artist for Luminaria: San Antonio Arts Festival. She has also served as a community-writing educator on behalf of Gemini ink and Blah Blah Blah poetry initiative. Melanie is currently teaching composition courses at Texas State, trying desperately to finish her thesis, and running a blogging company in San Antonio.

Liz Clausen is a writer and graduate student at Texas State University who is currently working on her thesis. Her fiction has appeared in Fiction Southeast and delta journal. She’s a Louisiana native, and the proud owner of two crazy dogs.
