A Strange Object returns with “Misadventure”

Austin-based publisher A Strange Object releases their second title, Misadventure, a collection of stories by Nicholas Grider, tonight at Big Medium. Grider is an artist and writer with an MFA from CalArts, and this marks his publishing debut.

“In Misadventure, men search for themselves, for each other, for the sources of sanity and sickness, of power and grief. In frank, distinctive prose, Grider challenges the conventional gay narrative and asks the reader to reimagine the kind of work short fiction should do. This book will grab you by the throat, but be warned–it may never let go.”

A Strange Object is riding a wave of buzz after the success of their first release, Three Scenarios in Which Hana Sasaki Grows a Tail, by Kelly Luce. ASO and Three Scenarios were featured in an article in The New York Times back in December (which can be accessed here) and local lit journal Foxing Quarterly was one of many who gave it strong reviews (as can be read here, written by Austin Bat Cave director Manuel Gonzales).

We look forward to ASO’s next offering, and Austin residents can pick the book up a week in advance at tonight’s event at Big Medium. The festivities kick off at 7pm. For more information, see the facebook event listing.
