New Fiction Confab 2015
fields is happy to announce that we will once again be taking part in the New Fiction Confab, hosted by the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation this Saturday, April 25, from 2-5 pm at the Faulk Central Library. Featured authors include Rebecca Makkai (The Hundred-Year House), Viet Thanh Nguyen (The Sympathizer), Asali Solomon (Disgruntled), and Akhil Sharma (Family Life), as well as Austin writers Amanda Eyre Ward (The Same Sky) and Mary Helen Specht (Migratory Animals). Makkai, Nguyen, and Specht will read and discuss their work from 2:00-3:00, and their conversation will be moderated by Tim Staley, the executive director of the Library Foundation. The other three authors will present at 3:30, and their discussion will be moderated by local author Doug Dorst. Before, between, and after the panel discussions, fields will be present to talk about our journal and the local lit scene alongside fellow publishers A Strange Object, American Short Fiction, The Austin Review, LitRagger, and the Writers' League of Texas. We had a lot of fun at last year's event, and as always, it is a treat to hear noteworthy authors from all over the country come in to town to talk about their work. And BookPeople will be selling copies of our latest issue (alongside many other wonderful books from the authors and organizations present), so it will be a great opportunity to pick up a copy of Issue 3 if you haven't already!
Writers should also take advantage of the free workshops that will be held in the morning, before the event, at various libraries around town. Workshops are broken down by age range (kids, teens, adults, and older adults), and each workshop is hosted by a different author. Space is limited, so make sure to RSVP at the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation website.
We hope to see you there!
